Unlike most close-up and landscape photography, wildlife often requires photographers to react instantly, or miss the shot altogether. In many cases, there is precious little time to focus and compose the subject before the opportunity is lost. Being able to achieve the optimum exposure is critical, and doing it almost instantly is necessary to capture images of fleeting animals and birds.
